Dark Day

1700 police officers on the street doing their best to deal with overwhelming rioting - and people are complaining they aren't doing enough.

I am sitting up, at 1.30am, watching live footage of London burning. I am stunned, horrified, and worried for my friends. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people have apparently lost their minds and are causing as much destruction as possible, for reasons which are a mystery to me. They say that it started three days ago in response to a civilian being shot by police. That may be so, but it doesn't explain why throughout London, and now in Birmingham and Liverpool as well, buildings and cars are being set on fire, shops are being burgled and looted, and normal Londoners are in fear.

Makes me very sad.
